The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva

Kristalina Ivanova Georgieva was born on Aug. 13, 1953, in Sofia. The high school senior said there was growing evidence that the United States could avoid a recession this year and achieve a "soft landing" of its economy, Reuters reported.

Georgieva told reporters that U.S. labor markets remain resilient and consumer demand remains strong despite rising interest rates to fight inflation.

She also said that there was a healthy shift from excess purchases of goods, which were under price pressure, back to demand for services, and there were more diverse sources of growth in the economy, BTA reported.

"It makes some case for expecting that the U.S. will avoid a recession in 2023," Georgieva said at her first 2023 briefing. And in fact, I would say that even technically (the U.S.) is in recession, it will be very mild, added the managing director of the IMF.
