A gas pipeline connecting Lithuania to Lithuania exploded today, Reuters and TASS reported, citing Lithuanian gas operator Amber Grid.

It is a main gas pipeline in the Pasvala region, in Northern Lithuania.

Residents of one village have been evacuated, announced the head of the regional administration, Povilas Balciunas.

He said that there were no casualties in the explosion, BTA reported.

The evacuated village of Valakelyai is located about half a kilometer from the place where the gas pipeline passes.

Its residents will be accommodated in two schools in neighboring settlements.

250 people live in the village.

In this section of the main gas pipeline, there are two pipes that provide gas for the northern part of Lithuania.

It also transports gas to Latvia.

The second line of the gas pipeline was not damaged in the explosion.

An investigation into the cause of the explosion has begun.
