The West wants Russian President Vladimir Putin to suffer a major, inevitable defeat in the war against Ukraine, on the level of what Nazi Germany experienced in 1945.

Oleksandr Motil, professor of political sciences at Rathgarh University, USA, told about this in an interview with TSN.ua.

The scientist answered the question of whether the West has already definitely decided that Ukraine should not just lose this war, but win it?

And should Putin and Russia suffer a crushing defeat?

"I'm not sure that they thought to the extent that, let's say, Putin has to lose a lot. If Ukraine wins, then, of course, Putin will lose. Of course. But

it would be desirable for him to lose a lot

. Because if it is just a lost war and Putin stays in power... Sure, it's a defeat, but not by much. The Russians will say they actually won, that it was a goodwill gesture, etc. So it must be a big, inevitable defeat on the level of what the Nazis experienced Germany in 1945. Well, approximately at this level," Motyl said.

He is convinced that this will have various positive consequences for Russia, Ukraine, and the world.

The professor noted that the

West has already convinced Ukraine that it must win.

"Again - here it is still uncertain what this means. Does it mean that Ukraine must return Crimea and Donbas? Or only the lands that the Russians captured after February 24? It is still uncertain. But in any case, Ukraine must win," - the scientist drew attention.

Weapons for Ukraine

Ukraine needs weapons to win the war.

And in the context of providing weapons to the state in the West, there have been positive changes, Motyl assesses.

"The very fact that they provide high-quality equipment is already a big and serious change. It is no longer only a question of quantity, but also of quality. And this is important, and I imagine that it will continue. There is still a certain inertia factor here.

The West is already so much has invested in Ukraine both money and weapons, and in general the very energy itself,

that to retreat now, without reaching a logical victory, it will turn into not only a defeat for Ukraine, but also a defeat for the West itself. Therefore,

retreating will be indecent and difficult

. And this is, of course, to the benefit of Ukraine, at least for the next few years," the professor explained.

It will be recalled that Oleksandr Musienko, head of the Center for Military Legal Studies, assumed that the West was convinced of the irreversibility of Ukraine's victory in the war, and therefore began to provide more of the necessary weapons.

However, the West is considering various options for this victory.

In turn, according to the expert, Ukraine should convince its partners that the potential disintegration of Russia is not as terrible as it may seem, and it will not get worse.
