Part of the bread producers in Burgas, who used methane to power their main productions, have switched to gas.

Despite the expensive electricity for businesses, there have not been those who have chosen the blue fuel as an alternative to electricity.

This is what Dimitar Ludiev, the chairman of the Regional Union of Bread Producers in Burgas, told BTA.

According to him, any changes in the assembly lines in production enterprises require considerable financial resources, and not all manufacturers can afford this.

In 2023, Ludiev sees a calm and more predictable market compared to the last two years.

He is adamant that the zero VAT rate for bread has had an impact on prices for end users.

However, there is an increase, but for certain raw materials needed for some bakery products.

Our eggs are among the most expensive in Europe

"Since the beginning of this year, there has been a slight increase in the prices of raw materials such as sugar and eggs. My prediction is that things will calm down in a month or two, but either way, there will most likely be corrections in the prices of bakery snacks and up," Ludiev said.

He added that there is also an increase in costs for productions that use rented space.

The price of the main raw material for the production of bread - flour, remains at relatively stable levels for now, and it is expected to remain so until the end of 2023.

In front of BTA, Dimitar Ludiev expressed the opinion that there is a need for more general and strict monitoring of the food market in our country by state authorities.

"My opinion is that it was a bit excessive to introduce zero VAT for bread. I'm not saying that this is bad, but maybe a lower rate should have been introduced for all foods, for example from 10 percent," Ludiev added.
