On January 14, 1901, the first electric tram set off in Sofia, marking the beginning of Sofia's urban transport, the Sofia Municipality reports on its website.

On the occasion of the holiday, "Stolichen Elektrotransport" organizes a free panoramic tour with a retro tram on the route "Vazrazhdane" - "Graf Ignatiev" - "Journalist" Square and back.

In the retro tram, there will be a representative of the transport company who will tell the history of tram transport in Sofia, and there will be gifts for the children.

The bus departure times from "Vazrazhdane" square are 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

Large-scale modernization of public transport in Sofia, as well as electric transport, began in 2010 under the program for the renewal of public transport of the Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova.

A total of 29 new PESA trams will run in Sofia this year.

They are delivered under a project financed by the Operational Program "Environment".

The first eight of them have already arrived, and the remaining 17 locomotives will be delivered by mid-2023.

They will run on lines numbered 4, 5 and 18. The new trains are between 28 and 33 m long, low-floor, with air conditioning, a boarding platform, special places for mothers with strollers and people with reduced mobility, and video surveillance.

Four more new fast-charging electric buses are also expected to arrive in the capital.

Their delivery is after realized savings on the project, under which 30 electric buses were bought.

They are already moving and carrying passengers on lines No. 36, 60 and 74, and from September 13 of this year

- and along the extended line No. 73. Electric buses are charged with a pantograph every 25 km or at the end stops.

They will run on lines 6, 60, 73 and 74.

The delivery of the new vehicles for electric transport is part of the project to implement activities to improve air quality in Sofia.

30 electric buses, 30 trolleybuses were purchased and are already running under it, and three rectifier stations are currently being reconstructed.

The new trolleybuses serve lines No. 1, 9, 6 and 7. With their delivery, the final renovation of the trolleybus fleet of "Stolichen Electrotransport" was carried out and the old "Ikarus" trolleybuses were replaced.

To date, "Stolichen Elektrotransport" has purchased a total of 110 new trolleybuses, 67 new trams, incl.

and the new 29 that will arrive this year, 83 renovated trams and 45 electric buses that run on six new electric bus lines, the Metropolitan Municipality also reports on its website.
