The Meteorological Department has predicted fresh snowfall in the middle and higher hills of Shimla.

Cloudy and light rain has been predicted in the capital today and Friday due to a strong Western Disturbance affecting Northwest India.

An official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that a layer of dense to very dense fog prevailed from Punjab to Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

According to IMD, there are chances of cloudy sky and light rain in Delhi on Thursday.

However, the minimum temperature in the city may rise to nine degrees Celsius.

The department says that due to the end of the effect of western disturbance and cold north-westerly winds coming from the snow-capped mountains, cold wave is expected to run again in the plains of north-west India in the coming days.

According to IMD data, Delhi witnessed severe cold wave from January 5 to January 9, which is the second longest duration in the month in a decade.

A senior IMD official said that more than 50 hours of dense fog have been recorded so far this month, which is the highest since 2019.

The local weather office has predicted light to moderate snow in the middle and higher hills and rain in the lower hills on Thursday and Friday, apart from forecasting snowfall in Shimla city.

Tension to the people of Joshimath

On the other hand, in Joshimath of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Wednesday due to deteriorating weather conditions, the severe cold increased the worries of the victims.

The Meteorological Department has also expressed the possibility of rain in Chamoli and other parts in the next few hours.

If the weather pattern worsens, then with cold and rain, the difficulties of the people living in this disaster-prone area will increase further.
