The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (KNSB) and the Confederation of Labor "Podkrepa" are protesting in defense of the country's energy security.

At 11:30 the trade unions will gather in front of the National Assembly to express their dissatisfaction with the commitment made in the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan to reduce carbon emissions from the energy sector by 40% by the end of 2025 compared to their levels in 2019

The unions want the parliament to oblige the Council of Ministers to start negotiations with the European Commission to cancel this commitment.

This request of KNSB and CT "Podkrepa" was included in the declaration that the two unions presented a few months ago.

The unions are demanding that the operation of coal plants be guaranteed until at least 2038, in line with the decision already adopted in 2020.

Because of the protest, traffic will be closed along "15 November" street and "Alexander Nevsky" square, explains BTA.
