The survey was conducted just before the nine-in-one local elections. The proportion of "suspecting the United States" in Taiwan was unexpectedly high. When asked, did it mean that China's cognitive warfare against Taiwan had achieved results?

Wu Wenqin, an associate researcher at the Institute of Politics of the Academia Sinica who participated in the research, said that some clues may be obtained from the survey results; Lin Zhengyi, a researcher at the Institute of European and American Studies of the Academia Sinica, said that before November, US President Biden had made four speeches saying that if China had For the attack, the United States will assist in defending Taiwan, and China carried out a live-fire military exercise against Taiwan after August 4 last year. Although Biden instructed the USS Reagan to stay in the waters from the northeast of Taiwan to Japan, it did not do so. In 1996, President Clinton also conducted live-fire exercises against Taiwan. At that time, Clinton instructed two aircraft ships to pass through the Taiwan Strait. He believed that the actions taken by the United States in August last year affected the impression of Chinese people.

Wu Jianhui, a researcher at the Institute of European and American Studies of the Academia Sinica, said that this survey overturned the traditional view that Taiwan is pro-American, and those who do not trust the United States (suspicious of the United States) may become more serious in cognitive warfare. It is necessary for the United States to respond to Chinese people's distrust of the United States, but he also said that further evidence is needed to prove whether the skepticism of the United States affects the election.

The survey also found that 66.5% of Chinese people strongly support U.S. arms sales to Taiwan; more than 60% believe that when the U.S. President publicly promises to help defend Taiwan and high-level U.S. officials visit Taiwan, it will increase the confidence of the U.S. to send troops to Taiwan.

88.9% of Chinese people advocate maintaining the status quo. The survey also shows that if China wants to change the status quo of Taiwan (reunification), 57% of people believe that the United States will send troops to help Taiwan, but if Taiwan changes the status quo (independence), 43% of people believe They believe that the United States will help Taiwan, and 45.3% of the people believe that if Taiwan becomes independent, the United States will not send troops to help Taiwan; another 60% of the people believe that the United States has a positive economic development towards Taiwan, and agree that the signing of the FTA between Taiwan and the United States will strengthen Taiwan’s security.

The survey was conducted from November 15th to 20th through the National Political University Election Research Center, and 1,234 Taiwanese adults were surveyed through questionnaires.
