Many on social media expressed the view that the Trinamool leader's caption was a reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is often referred to as a "chaiwala".

One person tweeted, "One chaiwala is enough for the country. Don't know if the country can adjust to a chaiwali and the impact on the shoulder."

Another wrote, "Mahua madam is on her way to become India's second woman prime minister."

The Trinamool MP was in her local constituency in Krishnanagar for her party's new public relations campaign 'Didir Suraksha Kavach' (Didi's protective shield).

The campaign aims to reach around 10 crore people of the state in 60 days starting from January 11 before the rural elections this year.
