[Reporter Cai Wenju/Tainan Report] Bird lovers were surprised and delighted by the fact that the oriole, which is rare to see in the wild, appeared in a park in downtown Tainan.

Bird friend Xie Qiliang recently accidentally spotted a red oriole in a park in downtown Tainan. It usually appears in low- and middle-altitude mountainous areas. This is the first time he has seen bird watching in an urban park for many years. It is really surprising.

Pan Zhiyuan, chairman of the Tainan Bird Association, said that it was also the first time he heard of the oriole appearing in an urban park in Tainan.

It is speculated that it may be the migration or spread in winter, allowing it to fly from mountainous areas or nearby flat forests to urban areas.

The Zhu Oriole is about 25 cm long. It belongs to the second-class rare and rare conservation wild bird of Taiwan's endemic subspecies. It mainly inhabits the broad-leaved forests and mountainous areas at low altitudes in Taiwan.

The oriole habitats closest to downtown Tainan, including Xinhua Forest Farm and Shalun Farm, are all close to low-altitude mountainous areas.

According to literature records, the oriole was discovered by the British naturalist Sven Howe in Tamsui in 1862. Its red and black feathers are so beautiful that Sven Howe was amazed and considered it "the most beautiful wild bird in Taiwan".

Xie Qiliang said that last week, people told him that there was a "red bird" in the park that he had never seen before. He went to look for it on the 10th. He took a photo of it in the tree in the park and confirmed that it was a rare oriole in the wild. And it is a colorful male bird.

I went to check again in the past two days, but I didn't find it.

Pan Zhiyuan said that from the photos, the possibility of the caged bird escaping can be ruled out first, because the tail feathers seem to be in good condition and not worn.

It may be the descent or dispersal of the winter, allowing it to fly here from the mountains or nearby flatland forests.

Based on the geographical connection, there are also many orioles in Xinhua Zhongxing Forest Farm, and it is speculated that they may have flown from there.

In an urban park in Tainan, there are many buildings, but the appearance of the oriole surprised bird lovers.
