Maruti Suzuki CEO Toshihiro Suzuki

Greater Noida:

India has the potential to become the largest vehicle market in the world and small cars will play an important role in this.

Toshihiro Suzuki, representative director and president of Suzuki Motor Corporation, said this on Wednesday.

Speaking at the Auto Expo 2023, he said that electric vehicles are not the only solution to India's quest for carbon neutrality and the company will explore technologies like flex fuel, hybrid and CNG.

Suzuki said that while safety issues have become important in the automotive sector, there is a need to strictly follow basic traffic rules and develop adequate infrastructure to ensure road safety.

He said, “I can see that a time may come when India will come at the top of the vehicle market in the world.

As Maruti Suzuki and the Suzuki Group, we would like to capitalize on this opportunity."

However, he did not give a possible time for India to reach the top.

He said, "When I say India can come on top, it is from the perspective that India has the potential to come on top and I see a possibility that India can reach the top."

India will become the world's third largest vehicle market by 2022, overtaking Japan.

China is on the first place while America is on the second.

On the future of small cars, which have seen a decline in sales in the last two years, Suzuki said, "I think small cars are still an important category in India.

Looking at the number of small cars here compared to the total population of India, it can be said that these cars have good prospects in the future.
