29 new low-floor trams will arrive in Sofia in 2023.

They will be delivered under the project "Implementation of activities to improve the quality of atmospheric air in the Metropolitan Municipality through the purchase and delivery of electric vehicles for rail transport - trams". It is financed by the Operational Program "Environment 2014-2020." "Stolichen Elektrotransport" EAD has concluded two contracts with a Polish company for the delivery for BGN 97.4 million.

The first new trams are already in Sofia ahead of schedule, and by the middle of the year it is expected that all the contracted motor trains will be delivered.

They are planned to run on lines 4, 5 and 18.

The first of 29 new trams is already traveling to Sofia

The new trams will be put into regular operation in stages - first on line #18 - in place of the 13 trams purchased under the "Integrated Metropolitan Urban Transport - Phase II" project, which temporarily ran on this tram line until the reconstruction of the railway along "Tsar Boris III" Blvd., and then - along line #4 and will partially serve tram line #5.

The trams are 30 m long and meet all modern technical requirements - low-floor, air-conditioned, boarding platform, special places for mothers with strollers and people with mobility difficulties, and video surveillance.

The delivery of the new vehicles is expected to improve air quality, passenger accessibility and comfort, as well as reduce rolling stock operating costs.
