Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, a number of

metro

stations were closed in Kyiv , and even the red line of the metro did not work for some time.

But at the end of December, the metro stations "Maidan Nezalezhnosti" and "Khreshchatyk" were opened.

Mykola Povoroznyk, the first deputy head of the KMDA, explained in an interview with

TSN.ua

why the city authorities made such a decision.

"In Kyiv, there were many closed metro stations. And some parts of the underground did not work at all with the beginning of the war. All this was done for reasons of security, protection and defense of the city of Kyiv. There was a time when the red line did not work from the Shulyavska station. Metro stations were closed after consultations with law enforcement officers and the military. And they were also opened after agreeing with them. Today, almost all stations of the Kyiv metro are open. "Maidan Nezalezhnosti" and "Khreshchatyk" were recently opened. The danger remains," he noted.

Povoroznyk emphasized that at the moment a significant number of citizens have returned to Kyiv.

The load on the Kyiv metro has increased significantly and it is very serious for this type of transport, which also influenced the decision to reopen the stations for passengers.

"Given that the Khreschatyk and Maidan Nezalezhnosti stations are also transfer hubs, their work was resumed in order to make the use of the subway more convenient for Kyivites," explained the deputy head of the KMDA.

Mykola Povoroznyk also said that currently it is impossible to open the second exits at some metro stations, for example,

at the Poznyaki, Osokorky, and Kontraktova

ploshcha stations , due to security considerations.

"They remain closed for the safety of passengers. Such recommendations were received from the law enforcement officers and the military. As soon as they change their decision, the second exits at the stations will be opened. The city is also interested in this so that people get comfort from public transport," Povoroznyk summarized.

We will remind you that the "Maidan Nezalezhnosti" and "Khreshchatyk" metro stations opened in Kyiv on December 20.

The transition between these stations also worked.
