A dog serving in England's fire service has gone completely blind while sleeping.

The 10-year-old animal named Kai, with over 10,000 followers on Twitter, was fine on the evening of January 8, but when he woke up the next morning he was completely blind.

This was shared with the BBC by his owner and fire service officer Matt Dixon, who admitted he was "devastated" and "confused" by his four-legged friend's unusual and sudden decline in health.

According to him, Kai managed to adapt to the new conditions quite quickly, relying on his sense of smell.

The dog is currently undergoing medical tests to determine the reason why he lost his sight overnight.

According to experts, it is most likely a case of Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome.

Dear all…….quick Kai update!!

Blood samples taken, it'll be 7-10 days for results, but he was much more at ease & brighter today.

I let him off lead in a park he's very familiar with……I panicked……he found a tennis ball……we played fetch……I cried.
