British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will sign a defense treaty.

APA reports that the British Prime Minister's office has released information about this.

It was reported that the agreement, which is considered the most important defense document between the two countries for more than a century, will be signed today at the London Castle.

"Years of negotiations will conclude today with a signing that will accelerate defense and security cooperation and allow the UK and Japan to deploy forces on each other's territory.

The agreement will also strengthen the UK's commitment to Indo-Pacific security and enable both countries to plan and conduct larger-scale, more complex military exercises and deployments.

The UK will be the first European country to have a Reciprocal Accession Treaty with Japan, the most important defense treaty between the UK and Japan since 1902.

The defense contracts will be submitted to the parliaments of Japan and Great Britain in the coming weeks," the Prime Minister's office said.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that relations between his country and Japan have deepened over the past year.

"We have a lot in common: a common vision of the world, a common approach to the threats and challenges we face, and a shared ambition to use our position for global prosperity, to ensure the prosperity of our countries for future generations.

This agreement is extremely important for our peoples – it strengthens our commitment to the Indo-Pacific region and underscores our joint efforts to strengthen economic security, accelerate our defense cooperation and promote innovation that creates high-skilled jobs.

In this increasingly competitive world, it is more important than ever that democratic societies continue to stand shoulder to shoulder and fight the unprecedented global challenges of our time," Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said.
