Peru has imposed entry bans on former Bolivian President Evo Morales and eight others, accusing them of interfering in its internal affairs, AFP and Reuters reported, citing an interior ministry statement.

The country is gripped by a severe institutional and political crisis.

The weeks-long protests against President Dina Bolwarte, who took over after the ouster of President Pedro Castillo, have left dozens dead.

Scores of Bolivian nationals have entered the country in recent months to engage in political activity that is contrary to Peruvian immigration law, national security and internal order, according to the interior ministry statement.

Morales has publicly sided with the ousted Castillo and last month said on Twitter that his ouster and arrest were illegal and unconstitutional, Reuters recalled.

"We are closely monitoring not only the attitude of Mr. Morales, but also those who work with him in Southern Peru," Peruvian Prime Minister Alberto Otarola told the media, commenting on the ban.

So far, there is no comment from Morales himself.
