Canada will purchase from the US and transfer to Ukraine a modern NASAMS air defense system.

Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand and Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov announced this.

"This is Canada's first free provision of an air defense system to Ukraine. In the conditions of Russia's brutal airstrikes against Ukraine, this air defense system will help protect Ukrainian settlements and critical infrastructure objects from attacks by drones, missiles and planes," the head of the Canadian Ministry of Defense emphasized.

I spoke with Ukrainian Defense Minister @OleksiiReznikov this morning and heard it directly: air defense systems are Ukraine's top priority.

That's why Canada is purchasing a National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) from the United States to donate to Ukraine.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov emphasized that Canada's decision will strengthen Ukrainian defense.

"Today I had a very productive conversation with my close friend Anita Anand, the Minister of National Defense of Canada. We discussed very good upcoming news from Canada that will significantly strengthen our defense capabilities," Reznikov wrote.

It will be recalled that earlier modern air defense systems IRIS-T and NASAMS were already handed over to Ukraine.

They turned out to be very effective and almost one hundred percent shoot down the missiles and drones with which Russia constantly attacks Ukraine.

In early December, the US Department of Defense signed a $1.2 billion contract with Raytheon Technologies for the production of six NASAMS air defense systems for Ukraine.
