Pope Francis declared that the Third World

War

is now underway .

He called for an immediate end to the war in Ukraine, calling it a "senseless conflict."

Pope Francis made such a statement on January 9 in his annual speech to diplomats accredited to the Vatican.

"Today, the third world war of the globalized world is taking place, in which conflicts directly affect only certain areas of the planet, but in fact affect everyone. The most recent and recent example is the war in Ukraine, the consequences of which are death and destruction, attacks on civil infrastructure, which lead to the deaths of people not only from explosions and violence, but also from hunger and cold," - Francis.

The pontiff emphasized that war especially hits the weakest - children, the elderly, people with physical disabilities and "unforgettably tears apart families."

"I can only renew today my call for an immediate end to this senseless conflict, which is affecting entire regions, including beyond Europe, because of the consequences it is having on energy and food production, especially in Africa and the Middle East."

- added the Pope.

He also drew attention to the current nuclear threat, which "exposes the world to fear and anxiety."

According to the Pope, "possession of nuclear weapons is immoral."

"Faced with the threat of nuclear weapons, we all lose, all of us," the pontiff added.

Earlier

, the Pope criticized Putin's thoughts on the use of nuclear weapons

: "At a time when, in this tragic war, some people think about nuclear weapons, which is madness, this country has said no to nuclear weapons from the beginning."

We will remind you that

the Pope called on Christmas to pray for peace in Ukraine and called the war inhumane and harsh.

He also urged to remember

Ukrainians "in the dark, in the cold, far from their homes"
