New Delhi:

Dense fog engulfed the country's capital Delhi and many other parts of North India, due to which the visibility has reduced drastically, and due to this at least 29 trains are running late.

The visibility in the national capital was reduced to a total of 200 meters in the early hours of Monday.

Due to dense fog, vehicles were seen almost crawling very slowly.

In the early hours, the Delhi airport administration had also issued a fog alert, and said that low visibility procedures are being implemented.

It has been learned that the traffic of about 40 flights has been affected due to the fog.

Some flights have been diverted, although there is currently no major delay reported in any flight.

According to the data of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), fog conditions are prevailing in the entire North India.

According to the data received from the Meteorological Department on Sunday night, there is news of 'zero' visibility in Bathinda, Punjab.

The IMD tweeted a satellite picture on Monday morning of the blanket of fog, which extended from Punjab to northwestern Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, and engulfed Haryana and Delhi.

According to the data received from the Railways, 29 trains are running late by at least two hours due to low visibility.

The Meteorological Office had issued an estimate on Saturday that the cold conditions in the entire northwest India may continue for the next two days.

The dense fog conditions have come at a time when the national capital and other areas of North India are in the grip of cold wave.

Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 1.9 degree Celsius on Sunday, which was the second coldest day during the last decade.

Due to the cold weather, the Delhi government has also issued an advisory to all private schools asking them to remain closed till January 15.
