The adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Mykhailo Podolyak, explained why the Russian Federation invaded Ukraine in the winter of 2022 and why the question of the psychology of the "tsar" and "commander" Putin has to do with it.

Podoliak said this in an interview with the Rada channel as part of a nationwide telethon.

"This is a question of Putin's psychology. He had to convince himself that he is a "tsar" and has the right to mass kill people. In the summer of 2021, he met at the level of the presidents of the United States and Russia, where he gave an ultimatum that he wanted to get such and such from the point of view of Russian security (in the military, regional sense). For some time, Putin had been psychologically preparing himself for the fact that he would enter the country and be able to massively destroy people there, and after that there would be no responsibility. He just had to believe in this. And he believed in it after many meetings," said the adviser to the head of the OP.

According to him, Putin has convinced himself that the EU and the USA will not help Ukraine, and most Ukrainians will welcome the Russian invaders with flowers.

"Putin had to psychologically prepare himself that he would be a brilliant commander, a "tsar" whom no one would reproach for having gone to kill people en masse. And when he believed it, he saw the fearful policy of the EU, the neutral-indifferent position of the USA, in the words of Medvedchuk , Putin thought that 90% would meet the rusty armada of the Russian army here with flowers, he said: "Well, everything is gone, everything is fine, we won't have any problems". That's how the decision was made. For 20 years in Russia, we proved to our citizens that we we don't give you a lot of money to live happily, but we tell you about greatness, to bring anyone to their knees. Now we will go to Ukraine, you will see, there 40 million people will scream with fear. And today they understand that the political "elite" of the Russian Federation will scream with fear," said a representative of the President's Office.

According to Podoliak, the Kremlin spent a lot of money before the numerous publications in the Western mass media at the beginning of last winter that Ukraine could not withstand the Russian offensive.

"And now he is spending a lot of money to force Ukraine to sit down at the negotiating table to settle the issue peacefully. It sounds very "cool": you came to our house, killed people, and now we want to settle our conflict peacefully with you. And the second component is to be afraid, because in January or February we will go en masse to Ukraine," concluded the adviser to the head of the OP.

Earlier, Mykhailo Podolyak said that after the victory in the Ukrainian war and the collapse of Russia, Belarus will quickly change its course towards European integration.

He also frankly told how the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia took place.
