In September 2020, a message appeared on Facebook on behalf of author Susan Meechen's daughter that the author of romance novels had committed suicide.

In the online community of readers and writers who supported each other's creativity, this news caused deep regret.

When it turned out that the writer had been alive for more than two years, it caused outrage among fans, the BBC reports.

"When we learned that one of our own had committed suicide, we were heartbroken," said writer Susan Cole.

Then rumors began to spread on social networks that the suicide victim had become a victim of bullying.

For two years, the group celebrated the anniversary of Susan Meechen's death.

Fundraisers and book auctions have been held in her honor, and authors such as Candace Adams have contributed to an anthology of short stories dedicated to "keeping bullying where it belongs—in fiction."

But this week, Susan Meechen suddenly came back to life.

She announced her comeback on social media, causing shock and confusion among fans and friends, and admitted that the suicide was staged.

"There will be many questions.

Let the fun begin," she wrote on Facebook.

The community of creators and fans are furious right now.

"Such things should happen only in fiction.

Now people feel like they can't care about each other because they no longer know what's real and what's not," Susan Cole responded.

After the fake suicide, a person pretending to be her daughter used Meechen's Facebook account to ask for help finishing her mother's latest novel and promoted her previous works.

Now members of the community have come to the conclusion that the "deceased" writer had been posting messages all along under the guise of a fictitious "daughter."

Although all the circumstances of this story remain a secret, the publication caused outrage in an online group of supporters of the writer.

"Why return?

Why didn't you stay under the pseudonym you had?"

- reproach the "resurrected" writer.

Meechen has now responded that the situation was instigated by her family and said she chose to remain silent while she "worked with a psychiatrist to improve my condition".

We will remind you that earlier the Ukrainian ex-journalist and writer of Buryat origin Dorzh Bata (real name - Andriy Vasiliev), who currently lives in the States, was accused of lying.
