In Novovolynsk, rescuers and medics performed a real miracle - they saved two boys who fell under the ice and spent more than half an hour in icy water.

The paramedics had to swim to the children to get them, and then, already in the hospital, the fight for the lives of the little patients began, TSN reports.

Rescuer Yuriy has cut hands, in order to save schoolchildren who were drowning in the middle of a deep quarry, he had to swim to them and break the ice with his bare hands.

"My front teeth were knocked out by ice," says the man.

"We still had to make our way 5-7 meters to him, the child was already starting to go under the water," says rescuer Ihor.

Three boys went to play in the ice-covered quarry that day: the eldest, 15 years old, and his ten and eleven-year-old friends, they are brothers.

The brittle ice could not withstand the children, they went under the water.

Their cries for help were heard by passers-by.

The rescuers pulled out all three schoolchildren, but the oldest boy was already without signs of life, it was not possible to save him.

Two brothers were in extremely serious condition.

The brothers were brought to the hospital with severe hypothermia: the body temperature was 22 degrees.

The probability that the children would survive was minimal, but the doctors did not give up, they continuously performed indirect heart massage on both of them for four hours.

"We had two teams of medical personnel who provided care specifically for one child and we were constantly changing," says doctor Oksana Mishuk.

"There was no time for emotions.

The most important thing was to do everything quickly and correctly," adds doctor Nadiya Hnedova.

Such a long resuscitation in the hospital is not yet remembered.

There were not enough hands, so even workers from neighboring departments were brought in to save the children.

"Solutions were heated, hot water was collected in mittens, bottles, bedding was soaked in hot water to keep warm," the nurse recalls.

And a miracle happened - the boys suffocated on their own.

"Angels came into the hands of my doctors and they gave these two children a chance to survive," the director of the hospital Oleg Shipelyk is convinced.

Now their mother is with the children.

On that fateful day, the woman was at work in the same hospital - she is a nurse.

She left the boys with her older sister during the shift.

When they said that both sons were in intensive care on the verge of life and death, the woman did not believe it at first.

"They told their older sister that they were going to their brother's house to play a game.

I don't know how they ended up in that career," says the woman.

These four hours, while the children were being saved, seemed like an eternity to her.

"I believed in miracles and in doctors.

I am very grateful that they did not give up, that they fought for my sons' lives to the end," adds the children's mother.

The boys still don't know that their friend has died.

Instead, they now have one more birthday for two, and they call their saviors angels.

"When I left the ambulance, everyone was around me.

I remember that," says one of the rescued brothers.

They are recovering little by little and promise not to step on the ice again.

Doctors say that after severe hypothermia, the brothers will undergo long-term treatment.

But the fact that they were saved is called a real Christmas miracle.
