In the morning of Saturday, January 7, Iran executed two more participants in the protests that swept the country after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini during her detention by the moral police.

21-year-old Mohammad Mehdi Karami and 20-year-old Seyed Mohammad Hosseini were hanged.

This was reported by CNN with reference to the Iranian publication Fars News.

Both of those sentenced to death were accused of allegedly killing a member of the Iranian "people's militia", the Basij militia, during protests against the regime last year.

Karami was sentenced on December 5, less than a week after the trial began.

His family claims he was tortured in prison and denied access to a lawyer.

Due to the absence of a defender, he announced a dry hunger strike last Wednesday.

Before the execution, Karasmi was not given the opportunity to communicate with his family.

21-year-old Karami was the country's karate champion and a member of Iran's youth national team.

Last month, Karami's parents posted a video on social media pleading for mercy.

His father said: "My son is one of Iran's karate champions, has several national titles and was the fourth-ranked member of Iran's national team... I am asking you, please cancel the execution order."

20-year-old Seyed Mohammad Hosseini worked as a children's coach on a volunteer basis.

He was an orphan.

Having lost both parents, Hosseini visited their graves every Thursday.

He was arrested on the way to the cemetery.

He was sentenced to death at the same hearing as Karami.

The total number of people executed in Iran in connection with the protests has reached 4 people.

An additional 41 protesters have been sentenced to death in recent months, according to Iranian officials and Iranian media, but the number could be much higher.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the European Union (EU) have called on Iran to halt all executions after two more people were reported to have been hanged.

It will be recalled that on December 8, the first participant in the protests, Mohsen Shekari, was executed in Iran, who was also accused of attacking a member of the pro-government paramilitary group "Basij".

On December 12, the second execution took place.
