[Reporter Chen Xianyi/Taitung Report] Green Island Township is famous for its rich coral reef resources and has become a diving resort. In recent years, with the increase in the number of tourists, it has brought a huge tourism economy. However, it is accompanied by the problems of marine debris and marine pollution. In order to arouse the public's attention to marine protection, the Taitung County Environmental Protection Bureau invited members of the Sea Cleaning Alliance in the Green Island area to clean up marine debris. Last year, it organized 13 beach and sea cleaning activities, and a total of 460 kilograms of marine debris were cleaned up. We would like to thank every member for their contribution to Green Island's marine environment and ecology, so that the beauty of Green Island's coral reefs will continue to bloom.

The Taitung County Government stated that the sustainable development and conservation of marine resources is one of the key policies of the county government. The members of the Sea Cleaning Alliance are mainly composed of hotels and diving operators in the Green Island area. In addition to cleaning beaches independently, last year the Environmental Protection Bureau also carried out beach and sea cleaning in popular green island attractions such as Zhongliao Fishing Port, Nanliao Fishing Port, and Chaori Hot Spring. A total of 224 people participated in the annual accumulation, and a total of 460 kilograms of marine debris were cleared. It was found that most of the marine debris came from common household garbage. The top three were plastic bottles 32%, plastic bags 10%, and aluminum foil Including 18%, by taking action to protect the ocean and gain a deep understanding of the crisis facing the marine environment.

The Environmental Protection Bureau further stated that it hopes to influence the relatives and friends around through the actions of the members of the Clean Sea Alliance.
