"The 40% in question, which is laid down in the EPP, will affect 50% of the plant's capacity, i.e. half and probably more of the plant should be shut down and not produce electricity - that's about 800 megawatts per hour," explained Deyan Dyakov, chairman of the National Security Council at Maritsa Iztok 2 TPP.

The trade unions at TPP "Maritsa Iztok 2" have been insisting since the middle of last year that the Recovery and Sustainability Plan (RPP) be reconsidered in its part for a 40% reduction in carbon emissions by 2026.

According to the workers at Maritsa Iztok 2 thermal power plant, this will lead to a halt in the export of electricity.

This in turn means that half of the people will be out of work.

The total number of employees at the headquarters is 1,200-1,300 people, but closing part of the facilities will lead to a 50% reduction in work in the mine, and another 7,000 people work there.

Half of them also remain without income.

KNSB: Until 2030, there will be no shutdown of capacities in the "Maritsa-Iztok" complex

"I don't believe that the only option is to reduce the capacities. In the past year, when the government of Kiril Petkov and Asen Vassilev decided to invest this disastrous 40% in PVU, no one thought about the social dimensions. No sociological survey was done. There is no financial study, how this will affect the region," said Deyan Dyakov.
