The total number of active cases in the country around Christmas was nearly three million.

It is estimated that 2.97 million people tested positive in private homes in the week of the Christmas holiday to 28 December 2022. The number of people infected is more than double compared to the start of last month and is the highest its level since mid-July.

A fourth Covid wave is coming

Nearly one in 20 people in England were infected with coronavirus over the Christmas holiday period, along with one in 18 in Wales and one in 16 in Northern Ireland.

The prevalence of COVID-19 was slightly lower in Scotland at one in 25 people.

The current wave of COVID-19 in Great Britain may turn out to be one of the largest in the country so far, notes DPA, quoted by BTA.
