[Reporter Wu Junfeng/Tainan Report] Jiuwei Power Company plans to build a natural gas power plant in Anding District, Tainan City. The local area is worried about potential risks and strongly opposes it. DPP legislator Guo Guowen invited relevant units to hold a symposium. In addition to questioning that it is too close to densely populated places, there are also problems of air pollution, ruins, and even impact on the habitat ecology of birds. He asked the central government to listen to the voices of the grassroots and stop setting up plans.

Lin Zhizhan, deputy chairman of the Xinke Tainan City Council who attended the meeting, emphasized that every construction needs local support as the basis. He hopes that the government will listen to public opinion humbly.

Jiuwei plans to build a natural gas power plant in the Taiwan Sugar Special Purpose Zone for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry in Liukuailiao, Anding. Neglect, coupled with security concerns, set up a self-help association to express protest.

Guo Guowen mentioned that the location of Jiuwei is too close to the north side of the residential area of the Taiwan History Museum, and there are more than 40,000 residents within a radius of 3 kilometers; in addition, there is no storage tank in the planning of the plant, and the natural gas required for power generation must be obtained from 3 kilometers away. The "Xinshi Isolation Station" in the city is imported through underground pipelines.

He believes that except for No. 8 across the cross-country highway, the pipeline is only 0.5 kilometers away from the Zhongrongli community residence. In the event of an accident, the loss of life and property will be very terrible. However, Jiuwei has not proposed a complete plan for risks such as fire and explosion.

Guo Guowen said that in addition to concerns such as industrial safety and air pollution, the construction of the factory area and pipelines also involves 4 or 5 cultural relics, and will also affect the important habitat of Taiwan's first-class conservation bird, the grass owl. The project planning is worth reconsidering.

Officials from the Ministry of Economic Affairs promised to bring local opinions back for reference and evaluation. Guo Guowen asked the Environmental Protection Agency to include the matters reflected by the public in the symposium, and strictly review them during the EIA.
