Indore (MP):

Police has arrested a 24-year-old youth on charges of vandalizing two temples in Indore.

A police officer quoted the accused as saying in the initial interrogation that he had prayed to God that his eye damaged in an accident in childhood should be cured and he was upset that this prayer was not fulfilled.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Prashant Choubey told PTI on Friday that Shubham Kaithwas (24) has been arrested for vandalizing two temples in Chandan Nagar and Chhatripura during the recent night.

He told that during the initial interrogation of the police, the accused said that one of his eyes was damaged due to accidentally entering the glass in his childhood and he had prayed to God to heal this eye.

Choubey said, “During interrogation, Kaithwas told us that he was upset because his prayer was not being fulfilled.

However, we are conducting a detailed investigation into the sensitive matter of vandalism in temples.

He said that prima facie the accused appears to be "mentally unstable".

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police told that Kaithwas's father has a small hardware shop, but the accused does not do any work and keeps roaming here and there.

Choubey said that the police have registered a case against Kaithwas under Indian Penal Code section 295-A (deliberate act of malicious intent to hurt the religious feelings of any section).
