[Instant News/Comprehensive Report] As the competition with China intensifies, the cooperation between the United States and Taiwan is heating up.

The United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced on Wednesday (4th) that the Biden administration will appoint the top official of "China Trade" to lead a delegation to visit Taiwan next week, sparking discussions.

According to the "Financial Times" report, in order to seek to strengthen commercial exchanges with Taiwan, the US Trade Representative Office announced on the 4th that Assistant Trade Representative Terry McCartin (Terry McCartin) will lead a delegation of trade and economic officials to visit Taiwan from the 14th to the 17th. Officials from other units of Taiwan and the federal government will also accompany the delegation. McCartin is also the top official in charge of "China trade".

USTR said that next week's visit to Taiwan will focus on a series of issues such as agriculture, digital trade, the role of state-owned enterprises, labor, the environment and anti-corruption standards.

At the same time, USTR also emphasized that this meeting is based on the US "One China Policy", "Taiwan Relations Act", "3 US-China Joint Communiques" and "Six Guarantees".

The report pointed out that although Taiwan has not yet been included in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), the US government has been trying to expand economic relations with Taiwan in recent years.

In June last year, the United States agreed to launch the "Taiwan-US 21st Century Trade Initiative" trade negotiations with Taiwan, which will be negotiated through video or physical meetings. For the first time in New York, a new round of talks was held after the physical negotiation meeting on the "Taiwan-US 21st Century Trade Initiative".

A person familiar with the matter revealed that the US delegation will arrive in Taiwan on a commercial plane, and there may be more rounds of talks after the trip ends.

U.S.-China relations have deteriorated sharply since U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan in August last year. This time, the U.S. government will send a delegation to visit Taiwan, which is bound to stir Beijing's sensitive nerves again.
