Why did we abolish the monthly travel card in public transport?

It's interesting why this question is being raised now.

The new tariff policy was adopted in July.

Anyone who has purchased such a travel document should be calm, because the card will be valid until its expiration date.

This was said by the executive director of the Center for Urban Mobility (CGM) Dimitar Dilchev in the program "The Day Live" on NOVA NEWS, who commented on the hot topic of the new cards and tickets in public transport in Sofia.

Tension and outraged passengers in public transport in Sofia

"The goal of the new tariff policy is to convince citizens that it is cheapest, most convenient and most profitable to use long-term cards - one for one year, for the entire city network. Such a card costs BGN 365 and can now be purchased of paying in 3 installments. Thus, one trip costs 1 BGN.

With one trip to the CGM cash desk, you get a transport document for the whole year. The other good thing is that the new card can be loaded online as well. If the card is lost, there is no problem to issue a new one. The goal is to become long-term users of public transport," he revealed.

How will the new tickets bought by the driver in the public transport in Sofia be validated?

"From March, paper tickets and punches will disappear in public transport. The new tickets make it possible to travel much more within 30 minutes with BGN 1.60.

The 60+ ticket costs BGN 2.20. If you board in 59 minutes, you travel to the stop, at which you have to get off no matter how long it takes. In one vehicle, the card and ticket are only validated once. Contactless card, smartphone and smartwatch trips are seeing huge growth - we report over 700,000 trips with this type of payment.

Again, however, I want to say, that the most profitable and convenient is to travel with a card for one year. The new tariff policy is very good and I am sure that the people of Sofia will get used to it and understand its benefits in the shortest time"

, Dilchev was categorical.
