A severe winter storm, bringing heavy rain, high winds and snow, has swept across California.

The governor of the state, Gavin Newsom, declared a state of emergency, local media reported, quoted by BTV. 

"This will allow us to respond quickly as the storm develops and support local officials in their ongoing response."

We are mobilizing to protect people," he commented.

Emergency crews discovered the body of a dead woman while towing stuck cars.

Earlier, the floods also claimed two other lives.

There are also downed trees.

The storm canceled many cultural and sporting events in the state.
