Pakistani MPs nominated Turkish President Recep Erdogan for the Nobel Peace Prize today, "for his efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis", Anadolu Agency reported.

"The war between Russia and Ukraine quickly turned into a nuclear flashpoint that could have ended in catastrophe for the whole world. Thanks to his (Erdogan's) tireless efforts, timely and effective interventions with both sides, he single-handedly averted a global catastrophe." wrote Mohammad Sadiq Sanjrani, Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan in a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

Calling Erdogan "a true statesman and leader who always strives for the development and prosperity not only of his country, but also of the region and the world as a whole," Sanjrani emphasized that the Turkish president "carries the true messages of the Holy Prophet Muhammad and his teachings on peace, tolerance and love for all mankind while continuing to dispel myths and misconceptions related to Islamic teachings".

The Senate said it had officially registered the nomination in favor of the Turkish leader on Wednesday.
