To shoot down Iranian drones, the Ukrainian military uses missiles that are much more expensive than the drones themselves.

This is stated in the article of The New York Times.

Artem Starosek, head of the Ukrainian consulting company Molfar, estimated that using a missile to shoot down a drone costs 7 times more than launching it.

Production of Iranian drones can cost $20,000, while the cost of launching one of the surface-to-air missiles used by Ukraine can range from $140,000 for the Soviet S-300 to $500,000 for NASAMS.

It is noted that previously Ukrainian forces used anti-aircraft guns and small arms to shoot down some drones.

But increasingly, the Russians are beginning to attack at night, so the Armed Forces rely on missiles fired from combat aircraft and the ground.

In particular, surface-to-air missiles, known as NASAMS, were repeatedly used against Ukrainian defenders.

The publication believes that such an imbalance may eventually benefit Russia and cost Ukraine and its allies dearly.

However, Starosek emphasizes that the costs of shooting down drones with missiles must be considered in context.

After all, shooting down a drone is much cheaper than repairing a damaged or destroyed power plant.

In addition, there is a much more important factor - saved human lives.

What did the Armed Forces say

Yuriy Ignat, the spokesman of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, commented on the NYT article on the national telethon.

He emphasized that it is incorrect to compare money and human lives.

"If there is a threat to your life, then you will probably spend everything to save your life. It is not correct to compare here. I have seen this material in the Western press. It sometimes seems to me that some newspapers in the USA and Europe have columns for Russian propagandists." — said a PS spokesman.

Ignat admitted that the missiles used, for example Nasams, Iris-T, are really expensive.

But the Armed Forces will continue to use them to shoot down the "martyrs".

"It's expensive, but we'll do it. And how does Israel shoot down some cheap missiles? Their air defense and aviation are many times more expensive than ours. It's about life, about preserving critical infrastructure and objects that can be hit by a kamikaze drone." "Shahid" is up to 40 kg of explosives. If this drone hits a critical infrastructure object, a fire breaks out, people die. Let's calculate how much damage a drone can cause and how much a rocket costs. It is absolutely incorrect to compare," he concluded.

When will there be a new massive attack by the Russian Federation

It will be recalled that the head of the GUR Kyrylo Budanov warned that Russia may launch another missile strike on January 7.

Military expert, reserve colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Roman Svitan believes that on January 5-6 we can expect new massive missile strikes.

OK "South" also assumes that the occupiers can attack Ukraine on Christmas - January 6-7.
