For the first time in years, Denmark has not reported a single bank robbery, as there would be no sense in one, reports BTA.

Paying with cash is practically obsolete in the Nordic country, as Danes much more often use smartphones and cards to pay.

The Danish Bank Employees' Union today welcomed the news that there has not been a single robbery in 2022.

Union spokesman Steen Lund Olsen said in a statement that this was great because the robberies put a lot of stress on the employees affected.

The banking sector association Finance Denmark said only about 20 bank branches in the country have cash, and the number of branches has fallen from 219 in 1992 to 56 in 2021.

The news sites noted that cash withdrawals in Denmark have fallen by about three-quarters each year for the past six years.

Finance Denmark reports that in 2000 there were 221 bank robberies and in 2021 there was only one robbery.

Criminals initially shifted their focus from bank branches to ATMs, with ATM robberies at their highest in 2016, with a total of 18. However, this type of robbery has completely disappeared due to tighter monitoring and technical protection of ATMs, the banking association said.

"Finance Denmark" notes that in recent years, criminals have focused on online fraud.
