The United States and South Korea are preparing a "coordinated and concrete response to a number of scenarios, including the use of nuclear weapons by North Korea. This was stated today by a spokesman for the National Security Council at the White House, quoted by France Presse.

He stressed, however, that the preparations would not include "joint nuclear exercises" because South Korea does not have nuclear weapons.

However, the US provides it with an "enhanced deterrence potential based on the full spectrum of the US defense arsenal".

Earlier, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol said that the American "nuclear umbrella" and "extended deterrence" are no longer enough to calm the South Koreans, BTA recalls.
