From January 1, the Republic of North Macedonia assumed the presidency of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) - the largest regional security organization, which includes 57 countries and 11 Mediterranean and Asian partner countries of the Organization, MIA reported.

The presidency is taking place at a time when the world is once again facing the biggest challenge – the Russian military aggression in Ukraine, which is a gross violation of the UN Charter, the basic provisions of international law and above all the values ​​of humanity, the Minister of Foreign Affairs said works on the side of Buyar Osmani, writes BTA.

It is the conflict in Ukraine and reducing the large-scale consequences of the crisis that will occupy a central place on the agenda of the OSCE Chairmanship in 2023. The motto of the Chairmanship will be "It's about the people" to show that at the core of all major international organizations and structures there is a need to make life easier for ordinary people, Osmani said.

Since January 1, we have been the chairman of the largest regional security organization in the world.

The only security organization that includes both the United States and Russia, and which is likely to have a new role in the new security architecture if a solution is found regarding the aggression in Ukraine, said last year at the annual meeting with journalists the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic North Macedonia.

At the 29th OSCE Ministerial Meeting held in Łódź on 1 and 2 December 2022, the last one hosted by Poland, Osmani spoke about the vision for the 2023 OSCE Chairmanship.

"They say the OSCE is at a crossroads. I believe the right way forward is to enable the OSCE to function to its full capacity and readiness, for the benefit and support of the citizens of the OSCE region. The organization must continue to serves the purpose of its creation by offering appropriate values ​​and principles as the basis of European joint security and a platform for dialogue as a tool for conflict prevention and resolution," Osmani pointed out. 

On the eve of assuming the chairmanship role, on September 1 in Vienna, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia presented the priorities of the OSCE chairmanship to the OSCE Permanent Council.

He stressed that Russian aggression against Ukraine and the role of the OSCE in reducing the large-scale consequences of the crisis will inevitably occupy a central place on the agenda in 2023. The implementation of the priority framework, he said, will largely depend on the development of the situation in Ukraine , which is directly reflected in the relations in the OSCE.

Unfortunately, we live in an age of turbulence.

The situation in the OSCE region is critical.

The framework priorities are drawn up in accordance with the current political picture and should reflect the general interest of the Organization in times of crisis, Osmani said.

He singled out energy security, food security and water security as topics that are forcing themselves on the OSCE agenda due to their topicality.
