Fighter jets of NATO's Baltic Air Patrol mission took off twice last week and on January 2 and escorted four Russian warplanes

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Lithuania.

According to the information, the fighter jets, which perform the functions of NATO's air police in the Baltic countries, took to the air to detect and escort aircraft that

violated the rules of flight in the international airspace

over the Baltic Sea.

Thus, on December 27, the Alliance forces detected and escorted a

Russian Il-20 plane

that was heading from the main part of Russia to the Kaliningrad region.

Also, two Russian Su-27 aircraft

that took off from the Kaliningrad region and returned back

were recorded and escorted  .

The next day, December 28, two Russian Su-30 aircraft

were identified and escorted

.

Both aircraft flew through international airspace from the main part of Russia to the Kaliningrad region.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense also clarified that on December 27, Russian Su-27s flew with their transponders turned off,

without flight plans and without communication with controllers of

the Regional Flight Control Center.

In other cases, the planes headed with transponders turned off, without flight plans, but maintained radio communication with the center's controllers.

Note that NATO's Baltic Air Patrol mission is carried out from bases in Lithuania and Estonia.

It will be recalled that on December 30, 2022, it became known that two Chinese and six Russian military aircraft entered the air defense zone of South Korea.

In response, the military of this state raised fighter jets into the air.

And in November, two Russian fighter jets almost hit NATO ships in the Baltic Sea, flying at an extremely low altitude of 90 m. The pilots of the Russian planes did not react to the warning message of the Alliance forces.
