The prosecutor's office of the former district prosecutor of Pleven Ivo Radev has been ordered to pay more than BGN 220,000, "Lex" reports, referring to the decision of the Sofia City Court (SGS).

Radev filed a lawsuit against the prosecutor's office in 2022 under the Law on the Liability of the State and Municipalities for Damages (ZODOV), after he was finally acquitted in 2019 on the charge that he pressured his colleague, prosecutor Snezhana Georgieva.

The trial against Ivo Radev continued for five years, and the city and appeal courts in Sofia acquitted him.

The Supreme Court of Cassation (SCC) also found him not guilty, and on re-examination, the SCC upheld the decision.

We remind you that the investigation against Ivo Radev began in March 2015, and almost a year before that, prosecutor Snezhana Georgieva filed a report against him in the National Criminal Court, saying that he had persuaded her not to support a request to increase the sentence of the repeatedly convicted Ivaylo Yachkov.

Ivo Radev was the supervising prosecutor in a case against Yachkov for money laundering, in which he pleaded guilty and an agreement was reached for an effective sentence.

According to the prosecutor's office, Radev requested that Yachkov's general sentence not be increased because he had promised this to his lawyer.

For half a year, Radev was followed by special intelligence means, and he was also tapped and monitored.

He was removed from office after being charged and resigned as deputy head of the Association of Prosecutors.
