The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the Delhi Government and the Director General of Prisons regarding reports of sexual harassment of a fellow inmate in Tihar Jail.

Officials gave information about this on Monday.

He told that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has decided to send its team to the spot to investigate the matter.

According to a statement issued by the Human Rights Commission, the NHRC has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports on December 30 about alleged sexual assault of a 22-year-old inmate in Tihar Jail by fellow inmates.

According to the statement, the victim prisoner is undergoing treatment.

The NHRC said that if the news in the media is true, then it is a violation of the victim's right to life and dignity.

According to the notice issued to the Chief Secretary of the Delhi government and the Director General of Prisons, the commission has called for a detailed report within four weeks.

The statement said the report would include the current health status of the victim, action taken against the erring officers and accused prisoners as well as steps taken and to be taken to ensure that such incidents do not recur in future. It has been asked to give information about the steps.
