Military expert Oleg Zhdanov explained that if Russia had "captured Kyiv in three days", the occupiers would have stormed the city and forced Ukraine to surrender.

He said this on his YouTube channel.

"The amphibious landing in Gostomel was a strategic operation of the Russian Federation. Its success could lead to the loss of Kyiv. And the loss of the capital in moral terms is a great victory. It would be very difficult for us to fight the Russian Federation if we lost this city. The Russians should have captured the airfield in Gostomel and ensure the arrival of airborne divisions. That is, in Russia, several regiments of airborne troops with military transport planes were sitting at the airfields, waiting to land an assault in Gostomel. And then these airborne battalions would advance to the center of Kyiv. Their task - seize the administrative buildings in the center of the city. And if they succeeded, they would seize television, launch their own broadcasting and organize the signing of the capitulation and Ukraine's accession to the Russian Federation. This was what the blitzkrieg consisted of," Zhdanov explained.

The military expert added that when the runway in Gostomel was already completely destroyed, the occupiers tried to land in Vasylkiv, at the local airfield.

"The second attempt to land such a landing party was in Vasylkiv. This attempt did not end in anything. There we were already waiting for the Russian landing party and eliminated them in the air," Oleg Zhdanov explained.

Russia's war against Ukraine

On February 24, 2022, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin announced the so-called "special operation for the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine."

The occupiers planned to "capture Kyiv in three days" and establish their puppet regime in Ukraine.

However, the Armed Forces repelled the Russian offensive on Kyiv and liberated all the northern regions.

Subsequently, the Defense Forces conducted successful counterattacks in the Kharkiv and Kherson directions.
