Meta Platforms is preparing to announce whether it will allow Donald Trump

Donald Trump - American businessman and politician Donald Trump was born on June 14, 1946 in New York to return to Facebook and Instagram, which is the most polarizing decision on moderation that the American technology giant has made to date, reports the Financial Times.

Trump, whose use of social media helped secure the presidency in 2016, was banned from Meta platforms for inciting violence shortly after a group of his supporters stormed the US Capitol in January 2021.

Trump has been heavily criticizing and suing the social media platforms after they suspended his accounts, and although his Twitter account has now been reinstated, he has yet to tweet anything.

The $300 billion company previously said it would decide by Jan. 7, 2023, whether to allow the former president to return to its social platforms.

However, that decision is now expected to be announced later in the month, the financial publication reported, citing a source familiar with the discussions.

Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg, who previously made the final decision on moderation matters, is now focused on the product and his emerging vision for the metaverse — but can still step in as CEO, chairman and controlling shareholder.

The company has created a task force to focus on the Trump account issue, according to people familiar with its operations.

The group includes staff from the public policy and communications teams, as well as the content policy team, led by Monica Bickert, and the safety and integrity teams, led by Guy Rosen, BNR notes.
