Bhubaneswar:

Following the death of two Russian nationals, including a Russian parliamentarian, in a hotel in Odisha, the state police is on the lookout for another person from the same country, who has gone missing.

The Russian MP was critical of Russian President Vladimir Putin, while the missing man was living in Puri and was also critical of Putin.

The missing man was earlier seen holding placards with anti-war and anti-Putin slogans in the Odisha capital.

About a month ago, a man was seen at Bhubaneswar railway station carrying a placard that read, "I am a Russian refugee, I am against war, I am against Putin, I am homeless, please help me." '

The picture of the man holding the placard went viral on social media after the death of his compatriots – parliamentarian and businessman Pavel Antonov and his fellow passenger Vladimir Bidenov.

Antonov died on 24 December, allegedly after falling from the third floor of the hotel, while Bidenov was found dead in his room on 22 December.

About a month ago, officials of the Government Railway Police (GRP) spoke to the man holding the placard at the Bhubaneswar railway station.

GRP in-charge Inspector Jaidev Biswajeet said, “On being informed by some passengers, I went to them and inquired about them.

He was roaming on the railway platform with a placard.

I inspected his passport and visa and found the documents in order.

He said that since he did not know English, more details could not be collected from him.

Puri SP Kanwar Vishal Singh said, "The GRP has contacted us and we have provided immediate assistance." Police are now looking for him.

A senior railway police official told PTI, "The police had no reason to doubt him as the Rayagada incident happened after he went missing."

Both the deceased Russians have been cremated and the CID is probing their deaths.
