In the beginning of January, the cold will become more intense.

new Delhi:

For the first time in 15 days in Delhi, the minimum temperature reached double digits on Friday, but this respite is expected to end soon.

A railway spokesperson said that 20 trains coming to Delhi have been delayed while the timings of three have been changed.

Safdarjung Observatory, Delhi's primary weather station, recorded a minimum temperature of 10.7 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal.

The minimum temperature in the capital was recorded at 7 degree Celsius on Thursday, 6.3 degree Celsius on Wednesday, 5.6 degree on Tuesday and 5 degree Celsius on Monday.

The Western Disturbance weather system can be held responsible for the relief from the cold in North India.

Meteorologists have said that with the weakening of the Western Disturbance, cold wave and severe cold conditions may occur in some parts of Delhi on New Year's Eve and the cold will intensify further in early January.

According to the forecast of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the mercury will fall to six degrees Celsius on Saturday and four degrees Celsius by Monday (January 2).

Dense fog and cold wave are expected in some parts of Delhi from January 1 to 4.

A cold day is one in which the minimum temperature is at least 10 °C below or equal to normal, while the maximum temperature is at least 4.5 °C below normal.

At the same time, an extremely cold day is one in which the maximum temperature is recorded 6.5 degrees Celsius or more less than normal.

According to the IMD, 'very dense' fog occurs when the visibility is between 0 and 50 metres, 51 and 200 meters 'dense', 201 and 500 meters 'moderate' and 501 and 1,000 meters 'shallow'.

In the plains, if the minimum temperature falls to four degrees Celsius or 10 degrees Celsius or below and is 4.5 degrees below normal, the Meteorological Department declares a cold wave.

At the same time, the period of severe cold wave is considered when the minimum temperature falls by two degrees Celsius or its difference from the normal temperature exceeds 6.4 degrees Celsius.
