The Spanish government has promised to step up the fight against domestic violence after at least nine women in Spain were killed by their current or former partners this month, BTA reported.

After four women were killed within 24 hours, Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlasca said yesterday that the country will do everything possible to put an end to these crimes, DPA reported.

The Social Commission accepted the creation of a register of domestic violence

After an extraordinary meeting in Madrid, Grande-Marlasca pointed out that all police departments in the country were asked to take measures to better protect women and children.

The fight against domestic violence has become a serious topic in Spain, the courts have started to issue harsh sentences in such cases, and the media pay a lot of attention to them, notes DPA.

In Spain, there are special prosecution units and special courts that deal with violence against women.
