Western countries made a big mistake in 1994 when they allowed the Russian Federation to become the sole guarantor of security in the post-Soviet space after signing the

Budapest Memorandum

.

This opinion was expressed by Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security Council, in an interview with

Kyivpost

.

Danilov is sure that the Western countries have already admitted that this was their big mistake.

"And this was their big mistake. I think they have now admitted it. If today there is no situation related to the elimination of nuclear weapons on the territory of Russia, then Ukraine and the whole world will not be able to live in peace. Because madmen need to take away matches, weapons and sharp objects," Danilov said.

We will remind, earlier Oleksiy Danilov explained

why the Kremlin's nuclear rhetoric changed after remarks from Beijing

.

In addition, we previously reported that the Russian dictator

Vladimir Putin is involving Alexander Lukashenko in nuclear blackmail

, and that is why the head of the Russian Federation flew to Minsk.
