December 29, 2022 - Thursday.

309th day of the war in Ukraine.

What a church holiday today, December 29

December 29 in the church calendar is

the day of memory of the blessed queen Theophania of Byzantium

.

She was the wife of the Byzantine emperor Leo VI the Wise.

She was born in Constantinople in 863 in the royal family of the Martynakii family.

Feofania's family was very pious, so the future queen received an appropriate education.

Feophania and her husband, Emperor Leo, were very different people.

She gave her whole soul to the service of Christ, and earthly joys were closer to him.

Even before Leo's ascension to the throne, the couple went through a lot of trials.

Believing the slander, Emperor Vasyl, Leo's father, imprisoned his son and daughter-in-law for three years.

Then their beloved daughter Evdokia died.

The death of the child deeply affected Feofania.

Therefore, she went to the monastery at the Blacherna Church, where she prayed even more.

And Lev at that time found comfort in the arms of another woman - Zoya Zautsina, who was the daughter of the chief of security and later became the queen.

Feofania more than once wanted to give Leo a divorce, but Patriarch Euthymius did not want to bless the couple for a breakup.

The marriage lasted 12 years and ended with Feofania's death.

December 29 is also

the day of commemoration of the prophet Hagia

.

The Church includes him in the list of 12 minor prophets.

He was the last prophet of the Old Testament.

According to traditions, it was Ogiya who is credited with several prophecies to the Jewish king Zerubbabel.

He also appealed to the authorities and asked them to restore the temple in Jerusalem.

When the Jews returned from the Babylonian captivity, Hagia convinced the people to build a new temple, and also pointed out the indifference to religion, which was the basis of all troubles.
