Azerbaijani boxers won 77 medals in 2022

2022 will be remembered as a successful year for Azerbaijani boxing.

According to the information provided by the Boxing Federation to the apasport.az website, this year the national teams of Azerbaijan in different age groups won 77 medals.

Our teams won these awards in 15 international competitions they participated in.

30 of them are gold, 20 are silver and 27 are bronze.



Our boxers won 18 out of 77 medals in European championships or championships.

The members of our national teams have won gold awards in each of the continental competitions in which they participated, except for the European women's championship.



Our team includes Nijat Huseynov (51 kg) in the U-22 European Championship, Kanan Babayev (48 kg) in the youth continental championship, Subhan Babayev (44 kg) in the European school championship, Mahammadali Gasimzade (57 kg) and Emili Rzayeva (70 kg) in the junior European championship. kg) won the title of champion by defeating all his opponents.

According to the results of our teams, they were 4th on the continent in 2 competitions (European Championship of U-22 and schoolboys), 6th in one (European Championship of young people), 7th in the other (European Championship of teenagers).

Our athletes won 5 gold medals, 5 silver and 8 bronze medals at the European championships.

Our girl boxer was also among those who rose to the podium.

Banuchichek Nasirli (44 kg) won the bronze prize in the competition among schoolchildren for the first time in the history of Azerbaijan.

Also, Emili Rzayeva (70 kg) won the title of the Azerbaijani boxer who sang our national anthem for the first time in the continental championship among juniors.

Our female boxers returned to our country with medals from the European Championship after a 3-year break.

As for our individual teams, our team of male boxers has won more medals in the last 11 months.

National team won 13 gold, 4 silver and 12 bronze awards in 4 international tournaments.

This is quite a successful result, considering the motto of the Federation, "Towards Olympic Gold".

In the tournaments where we were represented by 49 boxers, an indicator of 60.4 percent was recorded.

So, despite the change and reduction of weight classes, we can look forward to the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games with great hope.

At the U-22 European Championship, our team won 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals and repeated the record of Azerbaijan's boxing history.

It is these athletes who continue their training together with the main team.

Our female boxers won 1 silver and 1 bronze medal at the European Championship.

Our young athletes have 21 medals.

Our team, which is considered the tomorrow of Azerbaijani boxing, has successfully returned home from 5 international tournaments it participated in.

14 of them are boys and 7 girls.

If we add here the school boxers who participated in the European Championship, the number of awards is equal to 26.

10 of the medals are gold, 10 are silver and 6 are bronze.

5 of these prizes (1-1-3) were obtained in the European Championship among schoolchildren.

Our young boxers have 16 medals.

Those awards were won in 3 competitions - European Championship and international tournaments.

This team managed to raise our tricolor flag 2 times (1-0-1) in the continental championship and 14 times (5-4-5) in other competitions.

Our national teams of different age groups were represented by 161 boxers in 15 competitions.

59 of our boxers have tried their hand at European championships, 102 at international tournaments.

About 48 percent of them raised the flag of Azerbaijan in competitions.

Regarding Azerbaijan championships, 6 such competitions were organized in the last 11 months.

The youth and junior tournament was held twice.

If 176 boxers from 50 teams took part in the youth competition at the beginning of the year, in December this number increased considerably - 56 teams, 216 athletes.

While 327 boxers from 63 teams tested their strength in the youth championship, 326 athletes from 66 teams competed in November.

A record was recorded in the Azerbaijan championship, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the National Olympic Committee, held among schoolboys and girls.

For the first time, 369 athletes from 70 teams entered the ring in the competition in which female boxers participated.

The national championship of male boxers has also left behind the last years in terms of participants.

146 boxers from 38 teams fought in the competition, where foreign judges also protected justice.

This year, teenagers and young girls, as well as female athletes, competed for the title of Azerbaijan champion after a long break.

The strongest boxers of the country were revealed in the fight in which 50 boxers participated.

The Federation has also signed a number of innovations within 11 months.

Committees of Veterans and Champions, Coaches and Judges have been established.

Boxing experts visited different regions and gave the necessary recommendations for the boxer to become more popular and popular there.

Also, seminars for judges and coaches were organized in different regions.

In addition to these, the strengthening of the material and technical base is considered one of the priority issues.

Officials of the institution, who got acquainted with the latest situation of the halls in the capital and the regions, prepared a special plan for strengthening the supply there, and started work towards taking important steps.

In Sumgait, the Boxing Training Center has been overhauled and will be available to boxing fans these days.

The main goal is to successfully represent our country in international arenas, and to make boxing even more popular in Azerbaijan.
