Doctor of biological sciences Oleg Davydenko and his wife Natalya were accused of "organizing and preparing actions that grossly violated public order, or participating in them" (Article 342 of the Criminal Code) and insulting Lukashenka (Article 368).

The reason for the persecution was a photo of Davydenko women standing with a placard during the 2020 protests.

Starting around October 26, the State Security Committee conducted mass detentions at the National Academy of Sciences.

At least 44 employees were taken away.

Later, 41 of them were released.

However, later "Nasha Niva" learned that the detentions continue, among those arrested was the correspondent member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Oleg Davydenko.

After some time it turned out that Davydenko and his wife were detained in the morning of November 2.

  • Oleg Davydenko is 71 years old.

    His scientific and work activities are connected with the Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

    In 1990, he defended his doctoral thesis on "Cytoplasmic variability of agricultural plants".

    In 2000, he was elected a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

  • Davydenko is the author of 300 scientific works, including five monographs, one textbook, bred 19 varieties of plants.

    Twice awarded the National Academy Award.

  • In addition, Davydenko studied the genome of the indigenous population of Belarus.

    His conclusion is that Belarusians are genetically not Slavic-speaking Balts, but Slavs.

    One of the conclusions of the research was that in terms of genetics, Belarusians are one of the most monolithic populations in Europe.
