In his annual address to the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's unicameral parliament, Zelensky urged lawmakers to adopt laws that would attract foreign entrepreneurs and investors.

He announced that he discussed the recovery of Ukraine with the CEO of the American investment company "Blackrock" (Blackrock) Larry Fink via video conference.

"Ukrainian refugees abroad must one day return to the country," Zelensky set another goal.

He boasted that Ukraine's arms industry is one of the most developed in the world.

Its task is to contribute to the restoration of the territorial integrity of the country, noted the Ukrainian president.

Zelensky indicated that Ukraine will spend more than 30 billion dollars on defense in the coming years.

Another of his goals is to return to the country all Ukrainian prisoners of war.

Since the beginning of the war in February, 1,456 soldiers captured by Russia have returned to Ukraine, Zelensky announced.

Earlier today, the Ukrainian president said that there were "only a few civilians" left in Bakhmut, France Press reported.

Zelensky did not specify exactly how many local residents remained in this city in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region, which has become the scene of fierce fighting in recent months.

"Last year, 70 thousand people lived there," he recalled, however.

In Bakhmut, "there is no place that is not covered in blood. There is not an hour in which the terrible rumble of artillery does not resound," Zelensky also wrote, whose post was accompanied by several photos showing the extent of the destruction in the city.

Russia has been trying to capture Bakhmut since the summer.

Both sides of the conflict are giving many casualties in the battle for the city, which is in ruins.

In Bakhmut in recent weeks, it has been reported that there is no electricity and the water supply has been cut off.

Zelensky made a landmark visit to the city on December 20 - a day before he left for Washington.

During his only visit abroad since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24, the president of Ukraine presented the US Congress with a Ukrainian flag signed by defenders of Bakhmut.
