[Reporter Li Rongping/Taoyuan Report] The North District Water Resources Bureau of the Water Conservancy Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs stated this evening that the Shimen Reservoir, which has been in use for nearly one year, will expand dredging this year. Exceeding the annual target volume of 4.4 million cubic meters, and setting a new high in dredging volume, it continues to move towards maintaining the reservoir capacity and sustainable utilization of facilities.

Guo Yaocheng, deputy director of the North District Water Resources Bureau, said that in order to prolong the service life of the Shimen Reservoir, the North Water Bureau adopted a multi-pronged approach to remove the reservoir silt by means of land excavation, mud pumping, and hydraulic sand discharge through sand discharge tunnels.

This year, due to better water conditions, the water level of the reservoir continues to be high. Although the land dredging volume of 270,000 cubic meters is not as good as in previous years, the total amount of mud pumped by the three dredgers is 4.16 million cubic meters, reaching a total of 4.43 million cubic meters. The annual target volume set by the Water Resources Department was reached ahead of schedule.

Guo Yaocheng said that Shimen Reservoir completed the assembly of the third dredging ship this year, and it will be used with the Amping Anti-silting Tunnel to join the ranks of reservoir dredging. The dredger is the most critical role in maintaining Shimen storage capacity and stabilizing water supply in the future.

As of 9 o'clock tonight, the water level of the Shimen Reservoir dam is 245.18 meters (245 meters full), with a storage capacity of 206.82 million tons, and a water storage rate of 100%.
